I was looking for a WordPress anti-Spambot alternative solution to Akismet for this website and found GASP - GrowMap Anti-Spambot Plugin. Akismet was a free anti-spam WordPress installed plugin for a long time, but now charges a nominal fee, $5 per month, for business or product websites. Personal sites can still use it for free. Akismet is also included at no charge for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. My ever trying to be frugal ways set me on a search for a free plugin replacement and I discovered a blog post and favorable reviews on GASP at iBlogZone.
GASP is a free, simply installed WordPress plugin. After installation it requires commenters to check a box that states they are NOT a spammer. Spambots have trouble with that step thus eliminating them. My news posts at Sunset Street Design had been gaining quite a few spambot generated comments and becoming a nuisance. We shall see if GASP works as reported and helps to stop the spam. I’ll plan on doing a follow up in the future with results.
